Best known as a jazz composer and trombone player in Central Ohio, Brian Casey, who passed away last September at the age of 36, had written hundreds of jazz pieces, hundreds of pop and folk songs, avant-garde, film and dance scores and several major works for chamber orchestra. He composed extensively in a huge range of styles for a wide palette of ensembles.

In addition to performing with Central Ohio musical groups such as Mary Adam 12, Honk, Wail & Moan, Hipswitch, Apocalypso, and others, Mr. Casey served as accompanist for modern, jazz, ballet and African dance classes at OSU, Ohio Wesleyan University and BalletMet and as Director of Liturgical Music for Ohio Dominican College. He had performed his compositions in Thailand, in Rotterdam and Amsterdam as a guest of DansWerkplaats Amsterdam; in New York City at The Knitting Factory, DTW, The Joyce Soho and The Cunningham Studio; in Milwaukee with the WildSpace Company; in Philadelphia at the Festival of World Cinema; at The Wexner Center, where he served as silent film composer in residence, and all over Columbus and the Midwest. In addition, he composed a score for Tere O'Connor that was performed at the Colorado Dance Festival.

His composing and performing led to the receipt of an Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship and to being named "A Person To Watch" by Columbus Monthly magazine. His legacy lives on as Columbus area artists perform his work.
